For years I wished for a relationship to come into my life. Not just a date, but a real relationship, one that evolved into a partnership, with a family. I'd sit and meditate on it, I wrote affirmations, I set new moon intentions, I journaled endlessly about my issues so I could clear myself for it to come in. But one thing was missing... I was closed to it.
The one thing I wanted more than anything else, but I every time I thought about it, my whole body constricted. Treading water in the dating pool left me feeling duped, disappointed and exhausted. I began to feel like I was damaged goods, that somehow I wasn't up to snuff for the relationship I really wanted. Luckily I turned it around (read my post on Dating) and realized I needed to be open and start believing in what I wanted with every cell in my body!
Here's the secret about The Secret, we have to be open! We can set intentions and say our wishes and blow on dandelions all day long, but if we're internally closed to the idea, then nothing can come in! Whether it's a new job, a relationship, an exotic trip, here are 3 things you should do before shaking your fist at the Universe.
1. Get clear: It's important to be crystal clear on what you want. Write it down or repeat it several times so you're not stumbling over the wording of it.
2. Be specific: When do you want it? What does it look like? Where's the location? provide the 'when', 'where' & 'what' and leave the 'how' open. The latter makes it way more fun!
3. Be open! Okay, here's a very brief tutorial on your body's energy system. Every cell in your body (and you have millions of these) has a positive, negative & neutral charge. This is your energy which is then condensed into mass which makes up your physical body. But before the mass there is energy, are you following me?
The energy in our body only wants to align with what is in our highest good. It's why after a yoga class or your Reiki session, or a nice long walk, you naturally want to drink water, eat healthier, live healthier, because those things just ignited your energy in a positive direction. You said yes to healthy, your body said yes to healthy and everyone is happy-happy!
What happens when your mind goes rogue with free will? You know, like eating a whole pint of salted-caramel ice cream or watching a marathon of Real Housewives or hooking up with that guy that you weren't really in to anyway...? yep. You go against your grain and it doesn't feel so hot in your body. Those are your cells calling to you!
Additionally, because we have millions of cells circulating in our bodies, we also emit energy from our body. This is your electromagnetism, your energy field.
How does this apply to setting intentions? Find the fear. Fear makes our minds scattered and our physical body constrict. Guess what that does to your internal energy? Guess what that does to your energy field? That's right, constrict! So even if you're declaring your intentions from the highest mountaintop, there ain't nothin' getting in if you're harboring fear about them.
I see this in my work all the time. A client will have the purest, most beautiful intentions, but when they say what they want, I watch as their body caves in and listen to their voice shrink out of fear or disbelief.
So before you set your New Year's intentions, sit down, get quiet, ask your mind & body if it's on fully on board. Pay attention to any fear that comes up around your intentions. Start there, work with the fear first. Only then will you blow that dandelion with your full breath & heart.
