Moon Update: Virgo & Aries

The New Moon in Virgo happens Sunday, September 9th at 11a.m. PST.

The Full Moon in Aries happens Monday, September 24th at 7:52 p.m. PST.

"You guys go ahead!"

Leading up to the Labor Day holiday my badass-inner-priestess voice beckoned to me. After a super fun summer of hosting pool parties, attending weddings, entertaining weekend guests, and a 10-day family road trip through the southwest, I saw opportunity in the upcoming holiday which potentially offered up four uninterrupted days of spacious, creative solitude.

Badass Wins!

Rather than heading out of town with my husband and stepdaughter for some river time down at his dad’s, I made the tough, last-minute decision to stay home. Even up to the last second my devoted-mom-and-wife-voice battled with badass-inner-priestess. I wondered if I should just pack my weekend bag and get on the road. Gratefully, I have an amazing husband and family who understand my need for periodic retreats.

As I waved goodbye, the calls of, “honey do you know where my keys are?”, “have you seen my school binder?”, “where’s the phone charger?” “is there more toilet paper?” began to vaporize.

I made the commitment to put my nose down to immerse in some creative work projects I’ve been longing to develop. My plan was to flesh out two book projects, develop retreats and write scripts for video projects. Yet as time slowed down and my body eased into the quiet I realized my spirit was pulling me towards another direction.

Four....uninterrupted...days!

I went to a luxurious 90-minute yin yoga class, I booked an ayurvedic, hot-stone massage, I hiked, sat by trees and wrote poetry, I made jambalaya for the first time. I began reading Crazy Rich Asians. That was Day 1.

Day 2 was spent doing some major space clearing in our home which entailed cleaning out my stepdaughter’s room (yielding three... large... bags of garbage), organizing my home office, cleaning out the fridge, then lighting candles, placing crystals and burning sage into every single funky crevasse of our home.

Now that the physical space was clear, the internal body called. Day 3 was spent discovering ultra athlete, Rich Roll through a podcast someone sent and I got inspired to completely overhaul our diet after an indulgent summer of rosé and goat cheese. A day trip ensued to our local farm and three different grocery stores bringing home a bounty of fresh green everything and prepping our week’s meal plan of clean eating and stocking our fridge with grab & go containers.

And now here I sit on Day 4, taking time to write the Moon Update. The entire weekend I’ve felt a twinge of guilt, both for not being with my family and for not devoting more time for my work projects. Yet as I sit this morning and read about New Moon in Virgo and Full Moon in Aries, I’m relieved to find my inner compass is right on point!

Lena Stevens from The Power Path writes, “One of the themes [of this month] continues to be the letting go and clearing out and cutting loose of what no longer serves. As you clear away the old and make conscious proactive choices towards change, restructuring and recalibrating is inevitable.”

September Guidance: Clear the clutter, revamp your external world to reflect your inner world.

Word on the street about New Moon Virgo & Full Moon Aries

Astrologer, Tanaaz Chubb

The September New Moon is asking us to escape to the land of daydreams for just a moment. It is asking us to let go of all the heavy baggage we have been carrying so we can tune into the power of our imagination instead...This New Moon is reminding us that with our imagination and with a sense of self-belief, we can create and turn our dreams into realities.

Because this New Moon falls in the earthy sign of Virgo, there is a practical nature to this New Moon as well, which will allow us to take our dreams and imaginations and apply them to the real world.

This New Moon will also help us to break things down into smaller, more manageable steps so we can integrate our dreams into reality.

Astrologer, The Astro Twins

The pressure is lifting…and things are getting back to full speed again. Summer was a bit of a beast, astrologically speaking, with a lot of heavenly obstacles to dodge....As September begins, there are still four planets retrograde, and by the end of September, only two (radical Uranusand foggy Neptune) will be striking this rebellious pose. Mercifully, communicator Mercury and combative Mars turned direct at the end of August, which began easing some of the day-to-day stresses and frustrations we may have faced. On September 6, structured Saturn ends a five-month retrograde in Capricorn, which slowed down career plans (but, in what was perhaps a silver lining, put a watchdog’s eye on political corruption since stalwart Saturn and stern Capricorn rule governments and businesses). Shadowy Pluto, also retrograde in Capricorn since April, will finally correct its course on September 30. Phew!

It won’t be all easy-breezy, because as planets “station”—come out of retrograde and turn direct (forward)—there can be a bit of energetic whiplash. You know the feeling you get when a car or train stops suddenly, sending you pitching forward, then flying back? Yeah, it’s a little bit like that. Don’t expect to wake up feeling instantly lighter…but DO watch as gradual improvements pick up momentum each day.

Astrologer, Leah Whitehorse

Now we reach the turning of the season and we’re halfway through the astrological year. It’s time to weigh up what we’ve done so far and consider whether we are satisfied with the harvest in our lives. It’s around this time where we begin to see the fruits of our labours. Look back to mid-March to see where you were then and compare to now. Are you happy with the results? If not, this is the time to make adjustments to bring life back into balance.

The Full Moon in Aries on September 24 taps into the T-square as it opposes the Sun and Mercury in Libra, conjoins Chiron and squares Saturn. Despite the Moon being in independent Aries, we can’t go it alone during this time. We also need to balance giving each other a helping hand with personal accountability. Still, the Moon is supported by Mars, so motivations are clear and we’re feeling braver, despite being aware of the dents in our armour.

MOON RITUALS

Guide to Setting New Moon in Virgo Intentions

New moons are great astrological timings to help bring your intentions to full manifestation. I like writing 5-10 solid intentions based on what the current New Moon rules (see samples below). You may keep them in a journal, place them in a jar, I’ve even deposited mine into the hollow of my favorite tree. The key is to write them from your heart, then send them up freely to the Universe so you may be graced with their fruition in good time.

Remember, these intentions may not come to manifest overnight or even during the month. It’s important to release your hold on them and allow what is in your highest alignment to come through.

In her book, New Moon Astrology, Jan Spiller defines the theme for our intentions in this New Moon Virgo rules:

Physical Health: Diet, exercise, good habits, weight, healing

Sample intentions:

"I want to easily find myself doing____exercise___number of times per week."

"I want to easily find myself identifying and releasing all unhealthy habits"

"I want to easily find myself establishing healthy routines."

"I want to easily find myself identifying and taking in the right foods and supplements aligned for me"

Work: Jobs, projects, tasks, routines

Sample intentions:

"I want to easily attract and recognize the right job for me"

"I want to easily find myself creating routines that offer more work-life balance"

"I want all resistance to hard work totally lifted from me."

"I want all tendencies of procrastination totally lifted from me."

Creative Organization: orderly environments, handling details, efficiency, paperwork

"I want all resistance to 'cleaning up the mess' totally lifted from me."

"I want clear planning that will empower me to successfully reach my goal of____"

"I want to easily find myself completing and organizing paperwork."

Synthesis: Seeing the bigger picture, finding order out of chaos, emotional processing

Sample intentions:

"I want to easily find myself aware and accepting of good fortune when it comes to me."

"I want to easily focus on what is right in my life, rather than what is wrong."

"I want to easily find myself my relationship with_____ that leads to total healing for me"

"I want clarity to see how the pieces fit in the situation of______"

Restoring Health to: bowels, digestion, elimination, solar plexus

Sample intentions:

“I want to easily find the right healer to help me with _______”

“I want a total healing to occur with _______”

“I want to easily attract the right information to help heal _____”

“I want to easily find myself taking action to restore health to my ______”

Full Moon Ritual:

Journal about where you are holding back in aligning with your inner-most spirit. What keeps you separate and why?

  • As you journal you'll notice the emotional charge rising up again. It's ok, you are supported, feel the emotions and let them release onto your journal.

  • Now sit back. Feel your spine connecting with the support behind you, whether it's the chair, the wall or the vibrant energy of your spirit guides.

  • Make the agreement with your body to be supported in this moment.

  • Feel the center of your being running through your spine. This is your internal seat of wisdom and power.

  • Now that you've connected to that seat, place your left hand (receiving hand) up to receive that shadow piece of you. Place your right hand on the journal entry.

  • Agree to welcome the shadow home to your seat of power, security and wisdom. Then agree to fully release the upset that lies in your journal entry.

  • "I fully release these pieces in my life which no longer serve me and I take my seat in the powerful position of being co-creator with Universe and Mother Earth"

  • Take it a step further and tear out the journal entry, burn it in your fireplace, bury it in the sand, send it afloat on an ocean wave. Anything you can think that fully releases it back to the Universe. Then sit back and witness the spaciousness within you for new energies to reside.

And may it be so.
